Turn the Beach into Your Gym

Here in Northern California, the East Bay near SF, temperatures have been hitting the 90’s and 100’s! With COVID-19 closing gyms and everyone taking workouts outside or in their homes, it’s time to mix up where you go to enjoy a workout! One of my favorite places to get in a little sweat is the beach! Generally, the beach temperatures around here are in the 60’s and 70’s, which is perfect for a workout or run. The other benefit of a beach workout is that you can bring your kiddo along! Spread out a blanket, give them some beach toys and slip in a quick 15-30 minute workout while they play. It’s a win-win.

Beach Workout

Perform three (3) rounds of each drill. 8-12 reps of each exercise depending on your fitness level.

  1. Squat Jumps - sit back into those glutes and push off the ground into your jump! Modify by removing the jump and just doing the squat.

  2. Star Jumps - Inspired by Logan’s love of starfish!

  3. Lunges - complete all reps on one side before switching sides.

  4. Alternating Lunge Jumps.

  5. Standing Opposite Arm Leg Extension - working on that balance.

  6. After all 3 rounds are complete, finish with Tree Pose - try to hold for 30-60 seconds.

Enjoy the Moment

These times are hard for everyone and it can be exhausting and fun to find a new routine or new place to work out. Try to see new places as an opportunity to mix it up! Beach workouts are fun, but a workout in the park or even at a local trail can be fun too. Make nature into your playground!

We can get through tough times together. I think one of the biggest blessings of this is how into working out my 2.5 year old is now. He will even tell me I need to work out or grab his own resistance band and start doing bicep curls. Melt my heart!
